light, lines, reflections, & poetry

light cascading down the stairwell was the first thing that caught my attention…
followed by the lines and curves of the space…
stillness...
the  subtle sound of water flowing...
reflections...
I stood motionless soaking it in.

I love exploring our city and usually I’m drawn to the city streets downtown.
I like the sound of a city street….the rhythm of it.
On this afternoon, however, I wandered the campus of (CTS) and found myself wrapped in a different beauty.  Tranquil and lovely....and I heard a different rhythm....that of my soul.

"In the beginning (in the beginning of time to say the least) there were the compasses.  Whirling in void their feet traced out beginnings and endings, beginning and end in a single line. Wisdom danced also in circles for these were her kingdom. The sun spun, worlds whirled, the seasons came round, and all things went their rounds; but in the beginning, beginning and end were in one.

And in the beginning was love.  Love made a sphere, and all things grew within it.  The sphere then encompassed beginnings and endings, beginning and end.  Love had a compass whose whirling dance traced out a sphere of love in the void; in the center thereof rose a fountain."

{Sarah & David: Engagement}

My niece is getting married next summer and we recently spent a Saturday morning together making their engagement photos.  Her fiance lives several hours away and so I haven't had the opportunity to spend much time getting to know him, unfortunately.  Quite honestly, I was a bit nervous.  Within the first five minutes, my worries faded.  We fell into a great rhythm.  They walked ahead with his bike in tow (they met at a BMX race) and I followed....smiling and giggling with them.  We wandered all over downtown chatting and teasing each other....telling stories...getting to know one another.

Here's what I found about these two lovebirds:
They adore one another.
They make each other laugh endlessly. (He's like Owen Wilson funny!!)
They have incredible respect for each other.
They are good friends.
They are SO EXCITED to be getting married next summer!!

Thank you for spending the morning with me!
And welcome to the family David....

{Leo ~ part 2}

In between the moments that I was photographing (this little man), I was having a ball photographing his older siblings playing with my kiddos.  Let me tell you...absolute hilarity watching this group of kids entertain each other!  They raced bikes & scooters, they played basketball, and they chased each other all over the swing set.  Bathing suits appeared and the garden hose was turned on...then screaming once they realized how cold the water was!  They saved a worm from peril as it tried to cross the drive way.  They ate brownies and plotted Nerf gun wars.  They stopped to kiss their new baby brother as they ran past.  It was such a fantastic day!  And then tears as we left...
Each visit is never, ever long enough.  Back again soon....

{Leo ~ 3 weeks old}

It was just a few weeks ago (here)
that we were trying to imagine your sweet face, Leo...
Your little nose and sweet eyes...
Your tiny fingers and toes...
Who you would look like?
What your personality would be?
And so you've arrived, on your due date, no less...
And melted our hearts.

I had the true pleasure of photographing my very good friend's little boy recently.  It was  a wonderful afternoon and I especially adored the way his older siblings would stop to kiss him as they raced by.

Welcome sweet Leo....xo
